Ken graduated with a M.Sc. degree in the Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants from the University of Edinburgh and received his B.Sc. degree in Ecology & Biodiversity and Environmental Science from the University of Hong Kong. His postgraduate study was awarded the School of Biological Science Bursary Award by the University of Edinburgh. During his undergraduate study, he was awarded the Hong Kong Natural History Society Prize for Outstanding Student in Ecology and Biodiversity and HKSAR Reaching Out Award.
Ken has taken a prominent role in facilitating development applications, including Designated Projects (DPs) under the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance (EIAO) (Cap. 499), and planning applications under Sections 12A and 16 of the Town Planning Ordinance (TPO) (Cap. 131) requiring ecological surveys and impact assessment, and providing inputs in public comments on statutory submissions as an ecological consultant. Furthermore, he has been involved in engineering design requiring ecological input, such as wildlife corridors and compensatory wetlands and woodlands. He also had experience in liaising with non-governmental organizations to deliver public engagement and outreaching programmes as a Country Parks Officer in the AFCD.
Apart from identifying local plant, herpetofauna, butterfly, odonate and firefly species, Ken has been particularly involved in exploring bat diversity using bat detectors and identifying the echolocation calls emitted by the echolocating bat species in Hong Kong after being awarded the Certificate of Bat Acoustics Analysis by BatAbility. In addition, He is also a Certified Arborist, a professional member of the Institute of Environmental Impact Assessment and a skilled user of ArcGIS.
