Wetland Specialist
Dr. KWOK holds a PhD degree in Wetland Ecology from the University of Hong Kong, awarded in 1995. Her doctoral research study with extensive fieldwork was conducted at the Mai Po Marshes Nature Reserve, one of Hong Kong’s most ecologically significant wetland areas, focusing on the ecology of mangrove habitats and their associated macro-invertebrate communities, with a particular emphasis on crab species. This experience deepened her understanding of wetland ecosystems and the vital ecological functions they perform.
In November 1994, Dr. KWOK began her professional career by joining the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) as a Forestry Officer. Her responsibilities included biodiversity conservation, habitat management, and ecological assessment. Her technical expertise and dedication led to her promotion to Senior Forestry Officer in March 2010.
Between November 2019 and August 2023, she was seconded to the Sustainable Lantau Office of the Civil Engineering and Development Department, serving as Senior Conservation Officer. In this capacity, she played a key role in vetting applications for conservation-related projects, managing ecological surveys, and engaging with stakeholders to advance nature conservation initiatives on Lantau Island.
Currently, Dr. KWOK is the Wetland Specialist at Ecosystems Limited, overseeing a range of projects, including providing advice on the design of compensation wetlands, planning ecological monitoring of wetland habitats, and evaluating wetland ecosystem performance.
